Helly Hansen Pace Singlet Tank Top

Tank top weather has finally arrived in Montana, just in time for the summer solstice. In a matter of a day, it flipped from a dreary 50-degree drizzle, with storms and hail… to a sunny 70-degree day, with storms and hail.
It was go time for the Helly Hansen Women’s Pace Singlet Tank Top. I celebrated the solstice with mountain bike ride, realizing with a touch of shame that it was only my second ride of the season. Needless to say, I wasn’t prepared for an unrelenting, hour-long uphill push with switchbacks or for actually needing sunscreen. I’m glad I was wearing the Pace Singlet, so at least my temperature regulation was dialed.

Wearing the Pace Tank on it’s own, I noticed how well Helly Hansen's proprietary Cool fabric, a synthetic material designed for maximum venting in warm weather, wicked away the sweat I was producing. (HH makes several active wear pieces out of this fabric, including the men's

The fabric is light, stretchy, and woven in a way that somehow kept my skin comfortable while it stayed relatively dry, with the added bonus of a vent built into the racer back strap in the back. The reward at the end of the long uphill was twofold: a long, fun, descent, and a totally dry top by the time I reached the car. All the better for enjoying an après-biking celebratory beverage.
Throughout the ride, I appreciated the athletic cut of the Pace Tank, especially its length. The Pace stayed put from bust to waist, and the small of my back was covered even when I was all the way leaned over on my bike. The Pace has an internal shelf bra, and is cut low enough under the arms so chafing is not a factor, something I’ve appreciated when wearing this top while running. The sleek fit and form-fitting stitching complemented with subtle stripe accents convey an overall message: "focus on the workout." Non-chafing seams help, too.
The Helly Hansen Pace Singlet Tank Top is available for women in Pale Sunshine, Smoked Pearl, White, and Black in sizes XS-XL. The men's Pace Sleeveless is available in White and Black.
I usually wear a Small in tops and tanks, but the slender athletic cut of the Pace Singlet suited me better in Medium. The Pace also works well as a first layer under a long-sleeved top or windbreaker in cooler temps.
Bottom Line: The Pace Singlet Tank Top wicks sweat away beautifully so I can concentrate on being awesome. –L.B. (June ’11)
