Keen Alamosa WP Hiking Shoes : For Men and Women
There’s a lot to love about Keen’s Alamosa WP hiking shoe. It’s lightweight AND stable. It’s waterproof AND breathable. And, no break-in time required! Right out of the box, my Keen Alamosa WP hiking shoes were comfortable on a three-mile, hour-long hike. No hot spots, no blisters, no pinching. The Alamosa feels like a running shoe but gives me the support and padding of a sturdy trail shoe. That’s why I love Keen shoes. I need and like a very stable shoe with a firm, thick sole. I also need and want to feel nimble on my feet. I get all of that with the Alamosa WP, plus the added bonus of dry feet. I live in Seattle, so I need a shoe that keeps me dry even when I power walk or hike in a downpour. I often commute by foot, so I’ve worn the Alamosa shoes for plenty of wet, wet, wet outings and have been very happy with how dry my feet stayed thanks to the waterproof lining. Still, I like my shoes to breathe because it doesn’t rain every day! The Alamosa hiking shoes have plenty of ventilation, and, paired with a lightweight or midweight wool sock, are ideal for hikes on the hottest summer days. The Alamosa WP seems to have a slightly slimmer profile than some past Keen hiking shoe styles. The toe bumper is less pronounced but still functional and effective, a nice improvement. The toe box is still nice and round (I love that about Keen shoes) but it looks narrower and the forefoot of the shoe seems more in proportion with the rest of the shoe. Some Keen styles from years ago seemed to have an extra-wide forefoot that didn’t quite fit me right. The Alamosa WP is still wide enough for my D-EE feet, though. I’ve really enjoyed wearing the Keen Alamosa WP. I get the comfort of a running shoe with the stability and sole of more rugged hiking footwear. It’s what I wear whenever I’m heading out for afternoon hikes or long walks. It’s also the shoe I wear for all-day outdoor adventures when I won’t be wearing a heavy pack or hiking on steep trails where I’d want a boot for ankle support. Bottom Line: An all-around great lightweight hiking shoe that provides great support and keeps my feet dry.--B.M. (June '11) BUY ONLINE: $110 click for Onlineshoes.com.
